Jan van Diemen
The first time I got into contact with the work of Jan van Diemen was when I talked to Toine, the owner of SPARTS. He had an original golf painting of van Diemen hanging in his living room. Golf is not really my sport, but I was taken by his use of colour and the movement the painting radiated. Digging further through van Diemen's work it has drawn me further into loving his work!
Jan van Diemen was born in Amsterdam, where he studied drawing. During this period his love for sports as a subject came to surface. He works on canvas and paper and his works are sometimes very big!
He has the true skill for catching the dynamics and lyricallity of athletes in several series of oilpaintings, gouaches and screen prints. Abstract-expressionism as he calls it himself on his website. The performance of the athlete gets the most attention, but the scenery and surroundings also grab a disctinct place in the paintings. And don't forget the free flowing of colour and lines. Jan has been making sport inspired art for more then 30 years, so his place here is nothing more than logical and well deserved.
Be sure to check out his website for more of his amazing work!
