Jim van Overbeek
Artist Jim van Overbeek was Dutch National Champion Mountainbike in 1988, so the fact he chose sports as one of his main themes in his art is not a surprise! He once said in an interview that he loves action and colour. And it shows in his works!
He combined his life as an athlete with studying Art & Design in Amsterdam. His paintings from that period are big and realistic. Later on he changed his style to what he called New Pop Art. Bright warm colours, powerful lines and catchy backgrounds. These works were his true breakthrough. He has created artwork for exhibitions in 'cultural centra' such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, London, Cologne, Milan and Tokyo, and works for galleries, collectors en companies worldwide. Philips presented his artwork during the Dutch Design Week Eindhoven and in a special presentation in the famous Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam!
Spoken as a true sport and art loving artist:
'I love action and colour. As an athlete that's what I feel. As an artist I want to see that feeling on paper or painting. Something has to happen in my works.'
Well, you succeeded Jim!
