During the Art Loves Sport adventure I am currently on, it's really refreshing to sometimes escape the stereotypes of the sport and art world. One of those moments is discovering a female artist who makes sports inspired art. Especially if it's art which include all the things I personally love in sportart: the biggest stars in football and basketball, combining past and present, picture and word, illustration and typography. So, here I introduce the talented Marija Markovic.
This Serbian graphic designer and illustrater has made an enormous amount of artworks of football stars like Best, Messi, Cantona, Zidane, Müller, but also from basketball legends like Divac, Petrovic, Jordan and Dr J. Marija is clearly a true fan of these sports and players, because her works breath sheer idolization and the power to capture the essence of these heroes.
Each poster features a current or former player, immortalised in an iconic pose, along with their name and shirt number. Using a combination of stunning typography, pastel colours and famous slogans, the posters encapsulate the culture of the club or country they played for, as well as the personalities of the players themselves.
Here are just shown eight works, but she has so much more to show the world! So be sure to click here for more of these sportcollage masterpieces!
